Watkins Glen International Location: 2790 County Route 16 Watkins Glen, NY 14891 |
One of the most historic tracks, Watkins Glen was developed in 1956. Created more as a road course, this 2.5 mile track has 11 exciting turns with banking at 6-10 degrees.
The first NASCAR race took place in 1957 and Buck Baker took center stage as first place winner that day. Throughout the years, The Glen hosted a variety of races, and in 1984 was saved from bankruptcy and was transformed. It wasn’t until 1996 that Watkins Glen became a more modern course and welcomed back NASCAR to their new track complete with an inner loop added to the backstretch.
Watkins Glen really puts drivers to the test. Any die hard fan of NASCAR must take a trip to visit this historic raceway and see one of the most respected facilities in all of racing.
